Defeating New Kensington Leads to Four Game Win Streak for Beaver
Monaca, PA - Penn State New Kensington was on the road to take on Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball Team who remains undefeated at home.
Beaver has been defending their home turf since the start of their season. Taking on another conference team tonight left Beaver in high hopes to continue remaining undefeated and continue their win streak.
New Kensington started the game off with the first basket. They were able to keep Beaver from scoring for the first two and a half minutes. Beaver was able to respond with a three pointer and get their momentum going. The first quarter remained close. Beaver was able to close the first quarter of the game up by five. New Kensington was able to score 10 points while Beaver dropped 15. Beaver continued their momentum into the second quarter scoring the first basket. They played their best quarter scoring 20 points, forcing 9 turnovers, and only allowing New Kensington to score 7 points. New Kensington responded quickly with a bucket. Beaver continued to play hard and ended the half up by 18. the score sat 17 New Kensington and Beaver 35.
The third quarter was rough for both teams. Beaver had a hard time scoring as did Kensington. Beaver still remained in the lead, but was only able to score 12 points. Beaver kept New Kensington from scoring double-digits giving them 8 points. In the last quarter of the game, both teams struggled but Beaver did especially. Beaver turned the ball over more than they should have which costed them many points. They were able to stay in the lead and only allowed New Kensington to score 10 points. Beaver was able to score 8 in the last quarter and closed the game with a 55-35 win over New Kensington.
Three players where in double digits tonight. Junior Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) finished the game with 13 points, 3 stea;s. 3 assists, and 3 rebounds. Junior Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) finished the game with 14 points, 2 steals, 1 assist, and 6 rebounds. Freshman Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) came off the bench scoring 11 points. Logan also finished with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) was a monster on the boards finishing with 12 rebounds.
Beaver now sits at the top in the West with a 9-2 conference record and 12-2 overall record. They will be back in action at home on Saturday, January 21, taking on USCAA D1 Carlow University starting at 1pm. Come out and show your support or catch the game live on the Rise and Roar Network!
