Monaca, PA - The Beaver Softball team took on Penn State Schuylkill as they fought hard and split the doubleheader matchup. Both games featured high levels of offense and defense from both sides which proved to be entertaining for fans and those watching the livestream. Beaver had chances in game one to take control and close the gap but they were unable to do so. However, they were able make up for it by having a solid defensive performance in the second game and pulling out a victory to even things out on the day.
Game one featured a tighly contested contest through the fisrt few innings of the game. Beaver Freshmen pitcher, Leeanna West, (Milford, NY) pitch a complete game where she faced 40 batters. Beaver battled throuhgout the game but an explosive 4th inning for Schuylkill opned up their lead. Freshmen, Selene Lopez, (Simi Valley, CA), went 3/4 at the plate and scored twice while Sophomore, Bre Thomas, (Ambridge, PA) drove in 2 runs for Beaver to keep the game close. It was a very solid effort for Beaver but it wasn't enough as they dropped the first game by a final score of 9-5.
The tide turned in game two as Beaver took control early by jumping out to a 3-1 lead through the first three innings of the game. Sophomore, Bre Thomas, (Ambridge, PA) pithced a complete game where she only allowed 3 hits and 3 earned runs. Junior outfielder, Kylie Magnotta, (Monaca, PA) drove in three runs for Beaver followed by Senior, Cassadie Speed, (Cranbury, NJ) drove in one run and had 2 hits as they were able to pull away and win by a score of 6-3.
Beaver now has a 12-8 overall record and 5-3 in the PSUAC. Their next appearance is Saturday, April 8 in a doubleheader matchup against Penn State Brandywine. First pitch times are at 12pm and 2pm, come out and support or catch the live stream on the Rise and Roar Network!
