Beaver Takes Loss in Opening Season Game Against Bethany College
Beaver struggles to put runs on the board against Bethany College
Toronto, PA- Beaver traveled to take on Bethany College for their first game of the season. In game 1, they got behind in the first inning by one, but we were able to match things up in the second. First year Mason Hsu (Tainan City, Taiwan) had a sacrifice fly that scored third year Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, PA) to get Beaver on the board. There was no scoring until the bottom of the fourth when Bethany scored only one run. Third year Nicholas Campbell (Lewes, DE) reached on an error that scored Hsu, tying the game up at 2-2. The sixth inning was a rough inning for Beaver giving up 7 runs on 6 hits. First year Benjamin Ogle (East Berlin, PA) hit a sacrifice fly to score second year Ryan Coulombe (Easton, PA) to cut the lead. But Beaver was unable to score anymore, making the final score 10-3. Game 2 was off to a slow start. There were no points scored until the fourth inning. In the fourth, Beaver gave up 3 runs and could not answer them. Bethany held Beaver scoreless the whole game.
Game 1: Third year Nicholas Campbell (Lewes, DE) had 2 hits in 4 at-bats. Third year Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, PA) had a walk and scored. He pitched 3.2 innings, gave up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, and 7 strikeouts. First year Mason Hsu (Tainan City, Taiwan) had 2 hits in 2 at bats, scored twice, and had 1 rbi. First year Benjamin Ogle (East Berlin, PA) had a walk and scored. Second year Ryan Coulombe (Easton, PA) had 2 hits in 3 at bats. Fourth year Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ) had a hit and a walk in 2 at bats. Second year Kairu Fujinuma (Saitama, Japan) pitched 2 innings, gave up 3 hits, 5 earned runs, 4 walks, and 1 strikeout. Third year Chris Cann (Selden, NY) pitched 0.1 innings, gave up 4 hits, 3 earned runs and 1 walk.
Game 2: Third year Chris Cann (Selden, PA) had 1 hit in 3 at bats and 1 stolen base. Fourth year Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ) had 2 hits in 3 at bats. First year Mason Hsu (Tainan City, Taiwan) had 1 hit in 2 at bats and 1 stolen base. Second year Ryan Coulombe (Easton, PA) had 1 hit in 3 at bats.
Penn State Beaver baseball will not be in action again until Saturday March 8 in Myrtle Beach at the Cal Ripken Experience. They will face off against Geneva at 6pm on Ebbets field.
