Lions Sweep the Competition on Day 2 of USCAA Tip-Off Tournament
Monaca, Pa - The Volleyball team was back in action in Day 2 of the tournament taking on Penn State Greater Allegheny. Beaver ended Day 1 in a split losing their first game against Kent State Tuscarawas and defeating Paul Smith's College.
Today's game was not one to miss as Beaver swept the competition. In the first set, Beaver came out swinging which put them up early on. They kept their momentum going and closed the first set with a 25-11 win. the second set went much like the first. Beaver played amazing defense keeping Greater Allegheny below double digits for almost the entire set. Beaver was able to close this set quickly winning 25-10. Greater Allegheny was able to exploit beaver's mistakes in the third set keeping the game close. Each team traded off scoring points, and the competition was fierce. No matter how much Greater Allegheny came at Beaver, the Lions did not give up and pushed through till the end which got them the win they needed to send Greater Allegheny home. The final scored of the set was 25-22. Beaver finished the tournament in third place sweeping Greater Allegheny 3-0.
Beaver's win was definitely a team effort. First-year, hitter Zoie Reid (Salem, OH) finished the game with 12 kills on 22 attempts. Second-year outside Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) finished with 7 kills, 2 aces, and 10 digs. Second-year middle Makayla Solomon (Austin, TX) also finished with 7 kills. Third-year libero Lanie French (Beaver, PA) finished with 16 digs, having the most of the game. Second-year setter Courtney Simpkins (Palm Bay, FL) secured her second player of the game this season finishing with 33 assists, 5 aces, and 10 digs. Third-year hitter Leisetta Martin (Hobson, MT) finished with 6 kills.
