Monaca, Pa. – The Lady Lions win both home games.
The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team played two matches on Saturday, where they first faced off against Community College of Beaver County (CCBC), followed by Westmoreland County. The Lady Lions won both games, ending the day 2-0.
At the beginning of the first set against CCBC, Beaver's offense played aggressive and vigilant. The Lady Lions devastated CCBC defense and forced them to make server errors, winning the first set 25-6. Beaver's momentum persisted into the second set, once again dominating the ball offensively; winning the set 25-7. While the early two-set lead boasted Beaver's confidence in the third set, CCBC's began to fight back, keeping the game within a few point-differential. However, the Lady Lions pulled away at the end and won the set 25-23, earning them their first win of the day. Game leaders included Maria Slater, who finished with 4 kills; Alexis Albrecht, who ended with 7 digs; Heaven Bowman, who finished with 8 digs.
With a victory on their side to start the day, the women's volleyball team were motived to keep their winning streak alive against Westmoreland County.
At the beginning of the game, Beaver began strongly once again, and the team did a good job of passing the ball efficiently. The ladies dominated the set and won the first set 25-10. As they moved into the second set, Beaver's defense remained locked-in and forced errors from CCBC's offense, which helped them easily win the set 25-9. In the third set, Beaver's offense continued to have the advantage, although CCBC kept the score close at 20-14 in the last part of the third set. With the clock winding down, Ramiya White spiked the ball and scored, putting the team up 24-15. On the last play of the game, CCBC had a server error, leaving the final score 25-16.
