Monaca, PA -- In day one of action in the WPCC/PSUAC Challenge, the Lady Lions end the day 2-0.
In their first match of the day they took on crosstown rival, CCBC. The Lady Lions were slow to get going, but once they found their rhythm on offense they started to score at will, ending the first set 25-16. The second set the hitters continued to settle in, combining for 15 kills on 38 total attempts. Beaver won the second set 25-15. In the third set the Lady Lions got a little too comfortable as the CCBC Lady Titans found their rhythm as Beaver struggled on serve recieve. Despite not playing their best defensive game, Beaver was able to hang on and win the third set 25-20 to take the match by a final score of 3-0. Leading the Lady Lions was senior, Jenna Petrucci who had 15 kills and 2 service aces. Imani Hargrove and Brooke Tomasko also added 8 kills a piece as Tomasko led the team in aces with four in the match.
In the second match of the day, after a one game break, Beaver hosted Westmoreland County Community College. Working in a new rotation, the Lady Lions looked as comfortable as ever, holding the Wolfpack to just 9 points in the first set. In the second and third sets they gave up 11 and 16 points respectively, but easily cruised to their second victory of the night. Petrucci again led the attack with 16 kills to give her 31 on the night, a career high. She was followed by Hargrove who dominated the middle with 9 kills and a solo block. From the service line it was sophomore Alexis Albrecht who could not be stopped as she laid down 7 aces in the match. Also, making her college debut, was freshman Trestena Grant who contributed 2 kills on the night.
The Lady Lions now sit at an even 3-3 record and look to continue their win streak tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. when they host Penn Highlands.
