Hosting the USCAA Volleyball Tip-Off Tournament, Beaver opened their season against Christendom College. The Lady Lions came out of the gate slow and fell by a final score of 25-18 in the first set. Beaver battled back in the second set, taking the set into extra points looking to tie the game, but fell 28-26 in set. Beaver then used the momentum to steal the third set by a score of 25-18. Looking to earn the win, the Lady Lions battled in the fouth set, but lost their momentum and fell by a final score of 25-14 to lose the match 3-1.
Leading the offense were Brooke Tomasko with 12 kills and Jenna Petrucci and Amanda Mike who each contributed 7 kills. Leading the team in assists was senior setter, Ryanne "Roxy" Kie with 22 as well as contributing defensively with 16 digs.
In their second match of the night, Beaver took on Maine Fort Kent in an exciting match. In the first set, looking to come off of a tough loss, Beaver played a faster tempo game challenging the bigger front line of UMFK, but fell 25-22 in the first set. Improving the serving and defense in the second set, Beaver found themseleves with the lead halfway through the set (22-15), but lost the momentum and allowed the Bengals back into the game and fell in the set by a score of 25-23. In the third and final set, Beaver struggled to overcome the momentum from the end of the second set and fell by a final score of 25-10 to lose the match 3-0.
Leading the offense in this match was freshman, Imani Hargrove who had 5 kills. She was followed by Petrucci and Mike who each had 4. Petrucci also tallied 3 aces to lead the team in that statistical category.
The Lady Lions return to action tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. when they host rival Penn State Greater Allegheny.
