Mont Alto, PA -- The Penn State Beaver women's soccer team traveled to Mont Alto on Sunday to take on Penn State Mont Alto for their second conference game of the year. Still looking for their first win of the season, Beaver comes into this one looking to figure out what its going to take to put a win in the win column.
This turned out to be a great game for the Beaver women as they pieced together what turned out to be the best game they've played all season long. Beaver had some great stretches of play in their last game, with some flashes of what looked like a very capable team, and today they showed that they are indeed a capable team. The women played outstanding all around, scoring three goals and playing stellar defense thanks in part to sophomore goalie Brittany Zahn (New Brighton, PA / New Brighton) who played a great game, coming up with two great saves. In the end, Beaver came home with the win by a final score of 3-1.
The Beaver women finally come away with their first win of the season, giving them a 1-2 record overall with a 1-1 conference record as well. Two players, freshman Lauren Banks (Jeannette, PA / Jeannette) with two goals, and senior Jessica Spina (Jefferson Hills, PA / Thomas Jefferson) with one goal, provided the team with the offensive spark they had been needing to win for the first 3 games this season and look to continue to do so as Beaver looks ahead to more conference games. The Beaver women will be back in action on Wednesday, September 14 at home against Westmoreland County Community College, with the game time set for 4 pm.
