Beaver Wrestling Opens 2016 at Mount Union Open

Alliance, OH -- Beaver Wrestling competes in Mount Union Tournament today against wrestlers from Division I schools to club teams.

In their first competition since the fall, Beaver looked to gain experience and improve individual results in today's meet.

Ivan Rodriguez (Dallas, TX / Woodrow Wilson) lost two hard fought matches this afternoon, his first to Mount Union's Tyler Bilbertson in a tie breaker, 4-3 and his second to Purdue.  

Donnie Kerr (Ellwood CIty, PA / Ellwood) dropped two matches as well.  His first to Ohio State and his second to Mount Union were he lost by fall at 1:17.

Finally, Joe Wagner (McDonald, PA / West Allegheny), who joined the team at the semester break, lost his only match of the day to Connor Rodgers of Mount Union by fall at 3:00.  

Coach Yanek was quick to praise his guys in today's efforts, especially Joe who has been off the mat for two years since high school, but is looking to help this program grow in the coming years.  

The team will return to action on Sunday, January 31st as they travel to Jamestown Community College for an open tournament.
