Beaver closes season at PSUAC/USCAA Tournament
University Park, PA – The Beaver Wrestling squad traveled to Rec Hall over the weekend to compete in the PSUAC/USCAA Tournament.
Taking seven wrestlers, Coach Winkle and his team found some success in their trip. Two wrestlers were able to earn a win, while the rest struggled with their competition. At the 141 weight class, Wendell Rubright (Harmony, PA / Seneca Valley) finished his day 1-2. After losing his first match, he was able to earn a win in his second bout. All three of his match-ups were against PSUAC powerhouse Penn State Mont Alto.
Also finding success this weekend was Jim Helbley (Washington, PA / McGuffey) who also went 1-2. Competing at 174, Helbley lost a tough decision in his first match, but was able to turn that around in his second match earning a win by fall against his opponent from Williamson Trade.
Also competing this weekend were Donnie Kerr (Ellwood City, PA/Ellwood), Ryan Bradfield (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell) and Dustin Winkle (Independence, PA/Hopewell) who all wrestled at 149. Kerr, who lost by decision in his first match, was pulled from the tournament in his second match after a possible concussion. Bradfield suffered two falls and Winkle went the distance in both of his matchups, but lost by decision both times.
Seth Scheiver (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) competed at 157 but lost both bouts in the second period by fall. Finally, Ian Spigler (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk), who competed at 197, also lost both his bouts by fall.
On the season, the team finished 2-11 overall with a conference record of 0-4. With a lot of talent on the team, they will look to continue to build the program next season.
