Beaver falls in a tight match with New Kensington
Beaver falls 28-24 in a tough PSUAC match-up
Monaca, PA -- Beaver drops close PSUAC match-up to Penn State New Kensington.
In what proved to be a close match, Beaver took an early 18-0 lead after the first three bouts. New Kensington battled back, scoring their first points at the 165 weight as Beaver's Seth Schiever (Harmony, PA / Seneca Valley) scored early in the first period, but wasn't able to hold off his opponent who scored on a near fall in the second and third periods to win the bout making the score 18-4.
At 174, Jim Helbley (Washington, PA / McGuffey) faced an aggressive and fast opponent and fought to gain an advantage, but was pinned at 2:20 in the first period, making the score 18-14. Beaver fought to maintain their lead, but in a tough 197 match-up, Ian Spigler (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) wasn't able to secure the win which gave New Kensington the points they needed to secure the match as Beaver fell by a final match score of 28-24.
