Wrestling competes at Apprentice School Builder Invitational
Newport News, VA -- Wrestling traveled to The Apprentice School Builder Inviational where they competed against wrestlers from 12 other schools.
In the first round of action, freshman Dustin Winkle (Independence, PA/Hopewell), who wrestled at the 149 weight class, won by fall at 4:41 in the second period while Donnie Kerr (Ellwood City, PA/Ellwood), who also wrestled at 149, lost by decision 12-6. Wendell Rubright (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley), who wreslted at 141, lost his first round bout against WVU Tech. Freshman, Jim Helbley (Washington, PA/McGuffy) took a first round bye as did sophomore Ian Spigler (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk).
In the second round, the Beaver squad struggled with their competition as Kerr fell by a score of 12-0 and the others all lost by fall.
Winkle finished his day 1-2, while Kerr and Ryan Bradfield (Hopewell, PA/Hopewell) finished 0-2. Rubright, Helbley and Spigler all advanced into the concolation bracket, but couldn't pull off a late victory as they all fell in their final matches of the day.
Beaver returns to action on January 20, when they travel to Penn State Fayette for a tri-match.
