Rough Start Ends Well for Beaver in 78-54 Victory Over Hazleton
The Penn State Beaver Women’s Basketball team beat Penn State Hazleton in PSUAC Conference Match-Up.
Monaca, PA – The Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball team took on Penn State Hazleton in the Beaver Fieldhouse for their final game of 2024. Today the Lady Lions had a slow start to the game and were down by 11 going into the 2nd quarter. Going to the locker room at half time though was a different story for Beaver. Halftime the score was Beaver 43 – Hazleton 35, which left them in a much better position for the second half of the game. Winning by 26, the Lady Lions had a great weekend of play for PSUAC competition and showed out for their final games of the first half of their season. Today the scoring started early for Hazleton with 3 free-throws and a 3-pointer, all before Beaver could score their first point. Second-year, Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) scored off a free-throw cutting Hazleton's lead to 5. This was quickly followed by a 4-point run made by First-year, Cashimere Ralph (Pittsburgh, PA) who made a layup and 2 free throws. The first quarter had a lot of back-and-forth fouls and free throw attempts. Second-year, Claudia Siegfried (Wilkes-Barre, PA) scored the final 2 points this quarter with 2 free throws. First-year, Katie Enderle (Darlington, PA) was the first to score for Beaver. Enderle also tied the game up to 31 with 4 minutes left in the half. First year, Morghan Prevost (Houston, TX) helped Beaver take their first lead of the game with a layup. Coming out of the locker room Woodruff scored first for Beaver off a layup. Ending the 3rd quarter was First-year, Bailey Reig (Pittsburgh, PA) who may a layup and extended Beaver's lead even more going up by 12 at the end of this quarter. Woodruff would once again be the first to score for Beaver in the 4th quarter. Second-year, Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) would be the final player to score for Beaver. Beaver had a dominating weekend in PSAUC play and it was clear to see a whole team effort was necessary in their success.
Today the scoring line was sporadic, and every category was led by someone new. Second-year, Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) lead in scoring with 18 points, while she also had 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. First-year, Katie Enderle (Darlington, PA) scored 11 points, lead the team with 10 rebounds, had 1 assist, and 4 steals. Enderle has now captured her second double-double of her career. Second-year, Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) scored 12 points, had an impressive 8 rebounds, led the team with 5 assists, and had 4 steals. Both Enderle and Woodruff had 4 steals which tied for leading the team. First-year, Bailey Rieg (Pittsburgh, PA) scored 15 points, had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal, while also having the teams only block. The team had 37 rebounds, had 16 assists, and 13 steals, along with 1 blocks.
Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball is now 8-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play this season. This was the Women's final game for 2024 and the team will return after the Winter Break to once again defend their PSAUC Championship title. The team will take the court again in 2025 on Friday, January 17th at 6pm when they travel to take on another PSUAC Competitor, Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
