Bison Beat Lions in tough Non-Conference Match-Up
Lady Lions fall to Bethany College 88-57 in a tough Non-Conference Match-up over the weekend.
Monaca, PA - In their second game of the weekend, the Lady Lions took on Bethany College in a non-conference match-up. Beaver started strong today scoring first and going up 5 withing the first minute of the game. Second-year, Claudia Siegfried (Wilkes-Barre, PA) scored first with a 3-point shot while Second-year, Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) followed that up with a layup. The Lady Lions kept the game close for the first 5 minutes of the first quarter when Bethany went on a scoring run going up 25-11 by the end of the first. Bethany led in 3 out of the 4 quarters of play today, Beaver winning the final quarter with a score of 26-10. The fourth quarter was Beaver's highest scoring quater this game and one of their highest scoring quarters so far this season. Beaver had a slow start to the first half and went into halftime with a score of 49-22. Two minutes into the second half, Woodruff scored Beaver's first points off a jump shot.Entering the fourth quarter, Beaver was down 47 points but the team was able to cut that to 31 by the end of the fourth quarter. Beaver played hard in the fourth quarter but it was to late to make as big of an impact as the team needed today. Though the final score of 88-57 fell in favor of Bethany, Beaver is in a good spot starting this season.
Second-year, Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) had 10 points on her line this game with 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals. First-year, Katie Enderle (Darlington, PA) scored 10 points as well, along with 3 rebounds, and 4 steals, while also going 3-3 from the free throw line and 1-1 from the three-point teritory. First-year, Cashimere Ralph (Pittsburgh, PA) scored 7 points, and had an impressive 9 rebounds, with 7 of them being defensive rebounds. First-year Bailey Rieg (Pittsburgh, PA) played tough with 9 points, had 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 1 steal, also making all 4 of her free throws while coming off the bench. Beaver was 19-24 from the free throw line which was 79.2% and shot 31.5% from the field. The team collectively had 32 rebounds, 10 assists, and 16 steals.
Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball is now 2-2 overall to begin the season. The Lady Lions will have one final non-conference game before the begin PSUAC play.
