Beaver Picks Up Second Win of the Season at Home
Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball hosts Penn State Altoona in out of conference game.
Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball hosted Penn State Altoona in an out of conference matchup this evening. Beaver enters tonight's match with one win and one loss and was looking to earn a winning record by the end of the night.
Beaver's Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) opened the scoring with a lay up to start the game. Altoona responded with a three pointer to take the lead, but Beaver took the ball right down the court for a three pointer of their own to take the lead back. The next three minutes of the game featured no points for either team with several fouls and turnovers causing possession to switch back and forth. Once the scoring started again Beaver went on 7-2 run giving them a 13-5 lead. Beaver was able to use this momentum to propel them to a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. To start quarter number two Altoona had a 9-2 scoring run to cut Beaver's lead to three points. The rest of the quarter featured good play from both teams where Beaver would build a lead and then Altoona would bring it right back. The first half came to an end after an impressive 8-0 run by Beaver to take a 43-31 lead.
At the start of the second half the two teams were trading twos and threes resulting in Beaver's lead fluctuating between 5 to 12 points. Most of the third quarter looked like this and after the ten minutes was up Beaver had a 69-60 lead going into the last quarter. The fourth quarter started much like the third quarter ended with back-and-forth points until the score came to 77-68 in favor of Beaver. After this, Beaver went on an 8-4 run to extend their lead to 85-72. Beaver was able to kill out the rest of clock and win the game by a final score of 88-79. Beaver's stand out player this game was Claudia Siegfried (Wilkes-Barre, PA) who made 7 out of 12 three pointers with 21 points and 3 steals.
