Lady Lions Keep the Streak Alive Being 14-0 In PSUAC Conference Play
Monaca, PA- The Lady Lions played another PSUAC Conference match up against Penn State DuBois on their home court. The Lady Lions continue their perfect PSUAC Conference streak which is now 14 games. Their overall record is 16-6 and their PSUAC Conference record is 14-0. Beaver dominated their competitors Penn State DuBois with a final score of 80-69.
To start the first quarter DuBois won the tip off and gained possession. But starting the scoring for Beaver was First year, Claudia Siegfried (Wilkes-Barre, PA) with a 3 point jump shot. A turnover by DuBois set up Second year, Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) for a clutch 3 pointer. Another turnover forced by First year, Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) allowed Second year, Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) to drive to the basket for another 2 points added to Beavers score. Back and forth play continued the rest of the quarter between both teams. Back to back turnovers allowed Beaver to add 4 quick points to their score giving them a 7 point lead with 1 minute remaining in the quarter. The second quarter started with a DuBois turnover which led to a steal for Second year, Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) which she finished the play with a made lay up. Also adding to the points that quarter was Fourth year, Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) with a rebound and made 2 pointer jump shot. Fourth year, Caitlyn O'Hara (Norco, CA) drove to the rim and was fouled on the way and made both free throws adding 2 to the Beaver score. Beaver was in total control going into the halftime with a score of 46-28 Beaver.
Coming out of halftime DuBois struck first scoring a lay up. But Beaver quickly got that back with a 3 pointer made by Second year, Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA). Pressure by Second year, Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) turned into a steal with a 2 point made lay up. Another huge 3 pointer made by Second year, Makitah Logan (Plainview, TX) added to Beavers 23 point lead with 5 minutes remaining in the third quarter. DuBois gained some momentum throughout the quarter and brought the score closer but Beaver finished it strong heading into the fourth and final quarter. DuBois went on a 9 point scoring streak to start the fourth quarter and brought the score within 9 points. To end the scoring streak was First year, Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) with a clutch lay up. Reassuring the lead was Fourth year, Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) with a made 2 point jump shot. With back and forth play the rest of the quarter Beaver finished the game with a final score of 80-69.
Beaver had some huge contributors in tonights game leading scorer and player of the game Second year, Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) had 24 points, 4 steals, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds. Also adding to the stats sheet was Fourth year, Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) with 14 points, 3 steals, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds. Second year, Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) had 13 points, 2 steals, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.
