Beaver Triumphs in PSUAC Championship Rematch Against Schuylkill
Monaca, PA - Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball hosted Schuylkill for a rematch of the PSUAC Championship.
Beaver was back in action taking on Schuylkill for the first time since the PSUAC Championship last season. Both teams were ready for this game, Beaver wanting to defend their house and Schuylkill looking for revenge after the championship. Beaver fell behind in the start of the first quarter. Schuylkill was able to play off the mistakes Beaver made and keep the score close. By the end of the first quarter, the game was already tied. Neither team was looking to back down at the start of the second quarter. The lead jumped between both teams in the second quarter. Schuylkill scored the first basket in the second quarter. Beaver responded with a 3-pointer and out themselves in the lead. The lead for Beaver did not last long. Schuylkill was able to gain a three point lead with three minutes remaining in the quarter. Beaver did not back down and in the remaining three minutes, Beaver was able to close the half with a eight point lead over Schuylkill. The half ended 31-23
The third quarter proved to be tough for Beaver. Schuylkill profited off the mistakes Beaver made on both the offensive end and defensive end. By the end of the third, Beaver had only scored 7 points compared to Schuylkill's 12. Beaver was ready to close the game and played a great fourth quarter. Their energy was high and they cut down the mistakes they made. Although the score remained close, Beaver held onto their lead. Beaver was able to defeat Schuylkill once again 55-51.
Freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) lead Beaver tonight tonight on both offense and defense. Guzman finished the game with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Coming off the bench, freshman Makita Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) dropped 14 points in just 15 minutes. On top of this, Logan had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Junior Aaliyah Booker (Atlanta Georgia) put up 7 points going 2-5 from the three point line. Sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) played great defense having 5 defense rebounds and had 3 blocks.
The Women's Basketball Team now sits 11-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference. They continue to defend their house winning every home game they have played so far. They will be back in action on January 18th starting at 6pm EST taking on Penn State New Kensington.
