During the school's Spirit Night, Penn State Beaver looked to face off against non-conference oppenents, Kent State Tuscarawas. In this big night for the campus, with a packed watching, the Lady Lions looked to take down a tough opponent in 8-8 Kent State Tuscarawas. Coming off of a strong win against Penn State Du Bois, the Lady Lions will be looking to give the fans a strong win tonight.
The game started off slow as neither team could manage to score for the first five minutes of the first quarter. Finally the drought was broken when Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA / Trinity) got fouled and was able to sink both free throws. The first field goal of the game was made just a minute later by Kent State's Tessa Sanders as she hit a three giving her team the lead. The Lady Lion's first field goal came with 3 minutes left in the first quarter when Khalia Adams hit a three that sparked an eight point swing that happened in a matter of seconds. However Kent State fought back and the first quarter ended with a Lady Lion lead of 13-8.
The second quarter started off on a completely different pace than the first as the Lady Lions came back ready to play. The Lady Lions were able to expand their lead by going on a 6 minute, 20 point run lead by Kurtz. However, Kent State was able to stop this run with two minutes left in the quarter and were able to cut the Lions lead down to 38-21 by the end of the half.
Even though they ended the first half down by 17, the ladies from Kent State did not look to give up in the second half. They came out fighting hard in the third quarter, and lead by Sanders they were able to keep pace with the Lady Lions by scoring 15 points in the third. The third quarter ended with a score of 57-36 as the Lady Lions led going into the final quarter of the game.
With as much fight as they had in coming into the third quarter, Kent State was no match for Beaver and their high scoring offense. Beaver outscored Kent 23-6 in the fourth and were able to secure their eight win of the season with a final score of 80-44.
The Lady Lions were led to victory in this gaem with the help of Khalia Adams, as she was the leading scorer with 24 points on a handful of clutch threes. Beaver was also aided by Miranda Davis (Port Saint Lucie, FL / Saint Lucie West Centennial) and her game leading 12 rebounds. The Lady Lions now sit at 8-9 overall and stay at 6-1 in the conference. The Lions next game will be on Tuesday at Carlow at 7:30 p.m.
