Monaca, PA -- Penn State Beaver faced off against Penn State York in a good conference matchup. Penn State Beaver came into the game looking to get over a tough loss to USCAA Division I Carlow last Thursday night. Having taken such a tough loss just a few nights before, Penn State Beaver was looking to come out and make a statement for todays game.
The game started off slow for the first minute or so, but after a few key shots from Beaver they took the lead and ran with it. Right off the bat, Khalia Adams (Washington, DC / Phelps) took the game into her hands by making a pair of threes and scoring off of a steal. The team followed suit and ended up going out to a 35-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter Penn State York started off with a nice run, sparked by a clutch three from Katie McNamara, that cut Beaver's lead down to 43-16. However, Beaver was able to bounce right back with the help of Adams scoring and defense from Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln). By the end of the first half Beaver was in command with a 53-18 lead.
At the start of the second half both teams came out looking cold, going back and forth until Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA / Trinity) heated up a little, making a handful of jumpshots that got her team right back into the groove they were in during the first half. In addition to Beaver getting in the groove, Penn State York could not seem to find any sort of groove at all during the third quarter missing on a lot of good shot oppourtunities. By the end of the third Beaver was still up with a 74-27 lead.
In the final quarter of the game Penn State Beaver all but ended the hopes of a comeback for Penn State York as Adams and Kurtz continued with their impressive preformances. Penn State York fought to try to get back into this game making a few good shots including another three from Katie McNamara, but in the end it was too much to come back from as Penn State Beaver ended up walking away with a 93-36 win.
The Lady Lions were lead today by Morgan Kurtz with 29 points while followed closely with 24 points from Khalia Adams. Both Asia Borders and Brittany Jackson (Turtle Creek, PA / Westinghouse) contributed double-doubles in the win as well. The Lady Lions now sit at 6-8 overall while being 5-1 in the conference. Their next game will be at Ohio Valley on Monday at 7 p.m.
