Beaver Lady Lions Top Fayette at Home
Penn State Beaver Lady Lions win in doubles match against Fayette
Monaca, PA- Penn State Beaver Lady Lions faced Penn State Fayette at home for a double header. Both games would see Beaver triumph with victory. Game 1, Beaver would first score during the first inning and go hard, with Third-year Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley, CA), Second-year Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL), Fourth-year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA), Fourth-year Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA), and First-year Emilee Waggoner (Conway, PA) getting a 5 point lead for Beaver. Fayette would make a score duing the second inning, for which Beaver would pull all the stops once again and gain 6 additional points at the end of the second. Third inning, Beaver would go all out with Second-year Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL) scoring a homerun. At the end of this game, Beaver would come out with a signifigant win of 24-4. Game 2 would be much closer. This time, Fayette would draw the first points at the first inning, with Beaver's Fourth-year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA), Third-year Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley, CA), Second-year Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL), Fourth-year Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA) bringing Beaver to a quick lead. Beaver would last score at the end of the second by Third-year Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley, CA). Beaver would end in a much closer, but still victorious 13-5 lead.
Game 1- Leading Beaver, Second-year Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL) being at base 5 times, hitting 5. Mays would make 3 runs on the field. First-year Anna Moore (Stafford, VA) would be at base would be at base 4 times, hitting twice. Anna would also make 2 runs. Fourth-year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) would be at base 3 times during the game. Boyd wouldhit 2 times, running twice, and walking once. At pitch, First-year Reza Benson (Sunbury, OH) would see 3 strikeouts, 4 runs, and 3 earned runs.
Game 2- For the second match, Beaver would be led by Third-year Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley, CA) at base 3 times, hitting twice, and making 2 runs. Next would be Fourth-year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) with 2 times at base and 2 hits. Boyd would make 3 runs and 1 walk while on the field. Fourth-year Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA) would make an impressive streak with 2 times at bat, 2 times hit, 2 times ran, and 1 walk. At pitch, Fourth-year Gabbey Flynt (Fayetteville, TN) with 4 strikeouts, seeing 5 runs and 4 earned runs.
The Lady Lions are now 13-13 on the season. Weekly Conference and National Awards came out today, 3 Penn State Beaver Softball Players were honored in the awards. For the PSUAC, Fourth-year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) was named pitcher of the week, while First-year Reza Benson (Sunbury, OH) was named rookie of the week. And for USCAA, Second-year Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL) was named the hitter of the week. Congratulations to these players!
