Monaca, PA - The Lady Lions kicked off their home games with a battle against St. Vincent College today. Having a rough first game, the Lady Lions bats were quite while St. Vincent started heating up. The team went down by 1 in the top of the second, when St. Vincent scored , they would later get 3 more in the 4th, and their final 3 in the 7th. Game 2 was much better for Beaver as they brought the game back within 2. The final score of game 2 was 10-8. Beaver took a lead early in the bottom of the first, when St. Vincent would score 2 in the 4th, and Beaver would tie it up in the bottom of the same inning. St. Vincent would score 1 in the 5th, as would Beaver, when St. Vincent would score 4 in the 6th while Beaver only scored 1. The final inning, St. Vincent would score their remaining 3 runs, while Beaver was able to score 4 though it was not enough to secure the win. Second-year Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL), would hit a homerun in the bottom of the 4th for a solo blast, and get all 4 runs in the 7th by smashing a Grand Slam for her second homerun of the day.
In game 1, Fourth-year, Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA) had Beaver's lone hit in the bottom of the 7th inning, she hit a double. Second-year, Cassidy Crean (Wrightsville, PA), First-year, Reza Benson (Sunbury, OH), and First-year, Anna Moore (Stafford, VA) all walked this game while Benson also gained a stolen base. On the mound for Beaver was Mays, who went all 7 innings, gave up 9 hits, and only 4 earned runs.
Game 2, went much better for Beaver's bats. Third-year, Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley, CA) had 2 hits and score 3 runs. Mays, had 3 hits, scored 2 runs, and had 6 RBI's with her 2 homeruns and a single. Second-year, Bailey Vavricek (North Las Vegas, NV) and Fourth-year, Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) both had 1 hit and 1 RBI. Moore and First-year, Alison Delong (Hookstown, PA) both had a stolen base as well this game. On the mound for Beaver was Boyd who went 3.1 innings giving up 5 hits, in relief was Fourth-year, Gabbey Flynt (Fayetteville, TN) who threw 2.2 innings, giving up 5 hits, and the final pitcher of the game was Benson who threw 1 inning, giving up 3 hits and had 2 strikeouts.
