New Kensington, PA - The Penn State Beaver Softball team took on New Kensington in a doubleheader today. The team played well in both games but ended up splitting wins. After a great day on the field, The Lady Lions continue to win games. The Lady Lions started there in conference play today.
Starting off the first game strong on the mound was First-year, Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL) the first inning was really good for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions struggled to score in the first game. They had 7 hits total and Beaver was getting on base but struggled to score enough to win the game. They started scoring late in the fourth and fifth innings. Fifth Year, Valentina Sandoval (Miami, FL) had a strong day hitting with 3 at-bats, 1 run, 2 hits, and 1 RBI. Third year, Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) finished the first game with 1 run, 2 hits, and 1 RBI. The Lady Lions lost in a close game 5-3.
In the second game, The Lady Lions won the second game today 4-1. 3rd year Gebbey Flynt started on the bound. The Lady Lions played really good fielding today and only allowed 1 run in the second game. 3rd year, Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) had yet another good game. She finished with 1 run, 3 hits, and 2 RBIs. 2nd year, Selene Lopez (Simi Valley, CA) finished the game with 1 hit and 2 RBI. The Lady Lions evened up the split today and left with a win.
Mackenzie Boyd won Player of the Game today!! She finished with 2 runs, 5 hits, and 3 RBIs!!
