Myrtle Beach, SC - The Softball team here at Penn State Beaver wrapped up their last day of spring training with a double-header. Their first game began at 11 where they took on Hunter College. Beaver has started off their season amazing having a 3 game win streak and sitting at 4-0-1 overall. However, their winning streak did not last long as Hunter College proved to be tough opponents.
The first inning of this game was a slow start for both teams. Neither team managed to get any runs. Beaver took a lead in the second inning scoring 2 runs while Hunter College couldn't grab any. Neither team scored in the third innings, and the fourth inning was in Hunter Colleges favor. They managed to get 3 runs this inning and kept Beaver from scoring all together. Hunter College ended up sealing the win for this game after scoring 4 runs in the sixth inning. Beaver could not catch back up in the top of the seventh inning and left the field losing 2-7 to Hunter College.
Sophomore Kelsey Stoner (Beaver Falls, PA) grabbed player of the game for Beaver after hitting for a double and getting an RBI off of 1 hit. Senior Cassadie Speed (Cranbury, NJ) and freshman Selene Lopez (Simi Valley, CA) scored the 2 run Beaver got this game. Senior Kaitlyn Dunlavey (Salem, NY) also hit for a double today off of one hit. Sophomore Bre Thomas (Ambridge, PA) threw for Beaver today giving up 7 hits and 7 runs.
Beaver began their last game of the day and final game of spring training taking on Norwich University. Beaver was back on the grind for this game ending spring training with a big win. Beaver came out scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning and only gave up 1 run this inning. This would also be the only run Norwich scored for the entire game. Beaver did not get another run until the fourth inning where they scored just 1 run. Beaver would close out spring training in the sixth inning scoring 5 runs. The entire time, Noriwich University did not score a single run.
Sophomore Bre Thomas threw the entire game once again for Beaver. Thomas faced 30 batters today and only gave up 4 hits and 1 run. Senior Chloe Coleman (Moon Twp, PA) came out on top for Beaver in their win scoring 2 runs and getting 2 RBI on just 2 hits. Choleman was not alone in Beavers win today. Junior Kylie Magnotta (Monaca, PA), Thomas, sophomore Elena Denezza (New Brighton, PA), freshman Selene Lopez, senior Taylor Harper (Elk Grove, CA), and senior Valentina Sandoval (Miami, FL) each scored 1 run for Beaver.
