Monaca, PA - The Lady Lions split todays games with Penn State Mont Alto in which the first was a PSUAC conference game and the second was a regular season game. Beaver took home the win from game one improving their conference record to 10-6, while taking a loss in game to moving their overall record to 12-10. Prior to the start of the first game though was the annual Senior Day celebration in which 2 players were honored, Senior, Skylar Duffee and Junior, Paige Neidbala who will be gradutating early. These players were recogonized for their on and off field accomplishments in their time at Beaver and will be miss greatly.
For game one, Junior, Desiree Aponte started on the mound pitching all 7 innings, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 3. Aponte helped herself from the plate as well going 2 for 3 with a double and having 3 RBI's. Junior, Cassadie Speed hit the teams other double and brought in 2 RBI's. Freshman, Elena Denezza went 1 for 2 scoring 2 runs and bringing in a run through an RBI. Senior, Skylar Duffee scored 2 runs in the first game, helping her team to a 7-0 victory. The team had a great day around the bases as well having 6 stolen bases against a PSUAC competitor.
For game two, Freshman, Kiana Stamper started on the mound for Beaver throwing 2.2 innings striking out 1. Freshman, Gabbey Flynt came in for relief throwing 4.1 innings having 4 strike outs. Freshman, Elena Denezza had a day at the plate, going 4 for 4 scoring 3 runs for the teams 5 runs and having 2 stolen bases. Senior, Skylar Duffee changed her luck at the plate from game one and went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI's and scored a run on her Senior Day. Junior, Chloe Coleman scored 1 run for Beaver. The team had 8 hits scoring 5 runs in game 2 finishing with a final score of 10-5 with Mont Alto coming out victorious.
The team will take the field again on Tuesday, April 26th at 2pm and 4pm when they travel to take on Penn State New Kensington. This will be their last set of PSUAC games for the regular season so make sure to stay up to date on all the latest through beaverathletics.com!
