Evan Pinchot - The Penn State Beaver softball team traveled to take on Penn State Fayette on Wednesday, winning both games of their doubleheader matchup.
From the first pitch, to the final out, Beaver was a dominant team during their doubleheader matchup on Wednesday. Squaring off against Fayette for the first time this season, Beaver was able to to take an early lead in game one, building their lead off of a lot of mistakes from Penn State Fayette. Throughout game one, walks and errors by Fayette opened the door for Beaver to take advantage of scoring opportunities early and often, as they would end up scoring 11 runs on only 5 hits. With stellar performances on the mound by both Sophomore Desiree Aponte (Irving, Tx Ranchview) and Senior Natalie Larkin (Center, Pa Central Valley), who combined to only allow one run through 5 innings, Beaver easily walked away with a win in game one by a final score of 11-1.
Game two of the day showed more of the same from both teams, as once again Beaver was able to cruise to a 5 inning victory over Fayette. However, this game showed much more of an offensive boom from Beaver, as they would tally 12 runs on 17 hits in 5 innings, while amazingly only striking out once. With Larkin back on the mound for Beaver in game two, Fayette was again shut down on offense, as they would once again only be able to muster up a single run on 7 hits. After it was all said and done in game two, Beaver would walk away with their second doubleheader sweep of the year, winning by a final score of 12-1.
After two dominant wins on Wednesday, Beaver now holds a 10-8 overall and conference record. With so many great performances by Beaver on offense, it would be the outstanding pitching performance by Senior Natalie Larkin that would stand out most in Beaver's 2 wins, as she would only allow 2 runs through 9 innings to allow Beaver to 2 quick victories. The Penn State Beaver softball team will return to action on Friday, April 23, as they will play host to Penn State Fayette for another doubleheader matchup. Game one is set to start at 2 pm, with game two to follow at 4 pm.
