Beaver Softball Advances to PSUAC Semi-final
Beaver - 3, Schuylkill - 2
Dubois, PA -- With the inclimate weather moving the location of today's games, Beaver squared off against Penn State Schuylkill at 11:30 a.m. at Challenger Field in Dubois.
The Lady Lions got things going right away in the first inning, scoring two off of a Jessics Hughes double. Allowing Schuylkill to put a run of their own on the board in the bottom of the inning, Beaver went back to work in the top of the second. Playing a little small ball, Beaver's lead off batter, Brenna Cepull singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Carley Schroeder. After a passed ball landed her at third, she scored on a Brittany Garza bunt to give Beaver a 3-1 lead.
They held the two run advantage until the bottom of the fourth inning when Schuylkill added their second run of the game. But their late rally wasn't enough as Beaver held on to their one-run lead through the final three innings as Vanessa Jackson gave up just three hits in those innings to keep Schuylkill scorless.
Winning 3-2, Beaver was led offensively by Hughes with the two early RBI's as well as Cepull who was 2 for 3 in the game. In the circle, throwing the complete game victory, was Jackson facing 27 batters, striking out 8.
The Lady Lions return to action at 6:00 p.m. as they take on Penn State Brandywine in the PSUAC Semi-final game.
