The Beaver Lady Lions traveled to Penn State New Kensington Friday afternoon for a conference double header, going 1-1 for the day.
The team started game 1 with a bang, scoring 3 points at the top of the first. Brittany Zahn doubled with an RBI as Kayla Cambell scored. Zahn and Brenna Cepull scored following a singled 2 RBI from Jess Hughes. After a scoreless second, Beaver earned a pair of points in the top of the third. Hughes grounded out to a triple as Zahn scored, giving Beaver a 5-1 lead.
The top of the fourth saw Beaver continuing to push ahead, starting with a grounded out RBI from Cepull. Hughes and Zahn each went on to double with an RBI. The team went scoreless in the fifth and sixth, while New Kensington started to gain traction. In the seventh, Cambell doubled with 2 RBIs, as Carley Schroeder and Torey Cassidy each scored. With that, Beaver won the first game 10-5.
Game 2 was not as successful for Beaver. They started the first with a single from Cepull, with Tara McFadden scoring, but New Kensington gained traction in the bottom of the first.
The second pushed Beaver slightly ahead, with the team gaining four points. McFadden grounded out, earning an RBI as Schroeder scored. Dina Cable also scored following a Vanessa Jackson double RBI.
The team was briefly ahead 5-4 until the bottom of the second, when New Kensington gained the lead again. Beaver did not score for the rest of the game, falling to New Kensington 10-5.
The team is now 9-9 overall and 2-2 in their conference matchups. They will face off against New Kensington again Saturday afternoon at home in a double header.
