The Beaver Lady Lions continued their road game streak Thursday afternoon, traveling to Penn State Fayette for a pair of conference games. The team lost the first game 6-1, while winning the second game 9-0.
The first game started slowly, with neither team scoring in the first two innings. In the third inning, Fayette broke onto the board, leading 4-0. The fourth inning showed Beaver's only point of the game, as Brenna Cepull doubled to center field, with Kayla Cambell scoring at home. The fifth inning went scoreless for both teams, but Fayette managed to score 2 points in the sixth. The first game ended with Beaver falling 6-1.
Game 2 had a different outcome, however, as the Lady Lions dominated their opponent. At the top of the first, Dina Cable scored following a Vanessa Jackson single. Jackson would later go on to score after Cepull tripled to left field. In turn, Cepull also scored after Brittany Zahn hit a sacrifice fly.
At the bottom of the first, Beaver led 3-0, and they would go on to add 3 points in the top of the second. Jackson and Cambell both scored following a fly ball from Cepull, who would later score following a hard ground ball from Zahn.
The third inning was scoreless, but Beaver still maintained a lead against the scoreless Fayette. At the top of the fourth, Jackson and Cambell both scored again, following a ground ball to left field by Jess Hughes. Torey Cassidy soon singled a ground ball, giving Cepull a chance to run back to home. Following a scoreless fifth inning, the game ended due to the mercy rule, with Beaver winning 9-0.
The team is now 8-8 in their overall season and 3-1 in their PSUAC conference matchups. They will continue on the road Friday afternoon as they take on Penn State New Kensington in a conference double header.
