Fredrick Community College Bests Beaver
Myrtle Beach, SC -- Fredrick Community College bests Penn State Beaver in softball's opening game of the day.
Fredrick jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and despite 2 hits in their at bat, Beaver wasn't able to get on the board in the bottom of the inning. Beaver was held hitless for the next three innings while Fredrick tallied 3 additional runs, one in the third and a pair in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Beaver got a little momentum from a Vanessa Jackson single in the fifth, but just like the first inning, it wasn't enough to put a run on the board. Fredrick extended their lead to 6 in the sixth inning, putting Beaver on the ropes. In their final at bat, the Lady Lions Brittany Garza reached safely on an error to start the inning. She was followed by Carley Schroeder who was walked to put a pair of ducks on the pond for the Lady Lions. After advancing on a wild pitch, both Garza and Schroeder were in scoring position for Jackson who hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Garza, and avoiding the shut out. With Schroeder still on third, Kayla Campbell stepped to the plate and hit a rocket of a line drive, but Fredrick made a great defensive play on the ball for the final out of the game, defeating Beaver by a final score of 6-1.
Jackson led the way offensively going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Beaver now sits at 3-4 on the week as they head into their final game of Spring Training against Daneville Area Community College at 1:30 p.m.
