Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver softball team squared off against the women of Carlow University for a doubleheader. Beaver is coming into this game off of a win that clinched a first round bye for the team in the PSUAC playoffs and are looking to carry that energy into this non-conference matchup.
In game one on the day, Beaver's bats were ice cold as they were held to only 2 hits through 5 innings of play. The team struggled from the start of the game defensively as well, as they let up 2 errors early on while giving up 7 runs in the top of the second. After their rally in the second inning, Carlow was relatively quiet as they were held scoreless in until the fifth inning when they would push two across to end the game by mercy rule. At the end of this one Beaver would end up losing 9-0 in 5 innings.
Game two of the day didn't go much better for Beaver, as their bats still remained quiet. However, Beaver was able to push one run across in the seventh inning thanks to an RBI double by Freshman Keasha Barz (Wintersville, OH / Stuebenville). Unfortunately this was one of only 3 hits in this game by Beaver, as they were unable to keep up with the lively bats of Carlow that put up 6 runs through the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. When it was all said and done, Beaver would take their second loss of the day by a final score of 6-1.
After losing both games to Carlow, Beaver now sits at 18-15 overall. The team will look to rebound from these two loses on Thursday, April 27, against Saint Vincent in their final regular season matchup. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
