Penn State Beaver's softball team squared off against the girls of CCBC today in a doubleheader. Beaver comes into this matchup with a four game win streak, and with a 2-0 record against CCBC already this year that they looked to improve on coming into today.
The first game started at 3 p.m. and it started off with a bang for the Beaver girls, as they put up a huge 13 runs in the first inning. After their big first inning the girls from CCBC fought hard to try to scrape any runs together but were unable to, as CCBC was unable to pick up any runs by the end of the game. This was due to the magnificent pitching performance by Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) who let up only 2 hits while striking out 7 batters. By the end of the game, Beaver tacked on four more runs to end with a win and a final score of 17-0.
The second game started at 5 p.m. and this one started off a little slower than the first. However, it wasn't long before Beaver found the stride that they had in the first game and in the third inning they scored 13 runs, adding on to the two that they scored in the first inning. CCBC struggled to keep up in this game as well, as they were only able to muster up three hits throughout the game. As CCBC once again was unable to score a run against the girls from Beaver, Beaver was able to walk away with their second win of the day with a score of 22-0.
Beaver looked to be in top form today, as they were able to sweep CCBC while outscoring them by a margin of 39-0. Virtually every player was in on the action today at the plate, and both Vanessa Jackson and Emily Dietrich (Sewickley, PA / Quaker Valley) did a phenomenal job on the mound. The Beaver girls now have an overall record of 16-16 with a conference record of 3-1. Their next game will be on Saturday, April 16 at home versus Penn State Schuylkill at home. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
