Monaca, PA --In non-conference play, the Lady Lions hosted Thiel College this afternoon. Beaver scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third off of a Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA/Snohomish) double, scoring Sunnie Liggett (Avella, PA/Avella) giving Beaver a 1-0 lead. Freshman, Brenna Cepull (Monaca, PA/Central Valley) then doubled in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) increasing Beaver's lead to 2-0. Beaver added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth making the score 4-0 headed into the fifth inning. With a comfortable lead, Beaver would give up a run in the fifth to Thiel but quickly got that run back in the bottom of the inning, holding a score of 5-1 which would be the final score of the contest.
Leading Beaver offensively in game one was sophomore Haley Paul (Rochester, PA/Rochester) with 2 hits. Paul was followed by 4 other Beaver players with 1 hit. Jackson would lead Beaver from the mound, throwing 7 innings giving up 1 run and striking out 2 picking up the win.
A completely different Beaver squad showed up the second game losing 16-0 in 5 innings. Thiel would score 4 runs in the top of the first never looking back after that. Thiel would go on to score 6 runs in the top of the second and six in the top of the fourth to make a total of 16 ending the game in five innings.
Beaver would only tally 4 hits in the second game.
The softball team starts conference play facing Penn State New Kensington Saturday, April 2nd at 2 p.m.
