The Penn State Beaver softball team faced off today in a doubleheader against the girls of CCBC. Beaver is coming into this game still looking for their first win of the season, and it was apparent from the start of the first game that they were going to get it today.
The first of the two games started at 2, and they came out ready to play. Starting in the first inning, Beaver scored nine runs to jump out to a lead that they never gave up. Everyone's bats came alive as the team was able to collect 17 hits throughout the game. In addition to the hitting, both Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) and Carley Schroeder (Freedom, PA / Freedom) had steller pitching preformances, only giving up 2 hits throughout the game. When it was all said and done Beaver came away with their first win of the season, defeating CCBC 20-0.
After their success in the first game the girls looked to keep it rolling in the second game of their doubleheader. First pitch was at 5, and just like the first game the girls jumped out to a big lead in the first inning scoring 13 runs. However, CCBC didnt lay down like they did in the last game and they were able to get two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first. From their on out though CCBC's bats went quiet as the Beaver girls kept rolling scoring 12 more runs throughout the game, ending with a final score of 25-2, and coming away with their second win of the season.
Penn State Beaver's girls made a statement in this matchup outscoring CCBC 45-2 in the two games. Everything was working for them as they had both outstanding pitching preformances as well as great displays of hitting, including Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) who went 7-8 throughout both games with 6 RBIs and 6 runs scored. Beaver looks to continue with this momentum as they will face of against Chatham University this Thursday, March 24, at home. First pitch will be at 3 p.m.
