Myrtle Beach, SC --- The Lady Lions faced Division II Malone College in their first game of the day. Beaver opened the game with a single by Nicole Bowersox (Penns Valley, PA/Penn Valley) who was able to make her way to third on two stolen bases, but was left stranded.
Beaver was again held to just one hit in the second inning while Malone was able to score four runs on four hits with the Lady Lions comitting a couple of errors in the inning. This lead by Malone was never lost despite the offensive efforts of Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) who had a lead off double in the fourth inning. Beaver's bats continued to stay cold throughout the game and they dropped the game 8-0 after 6 innings.
Pier lead the offense with the double in the fourth while Bowersox, Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East), Amanda Palombo (Aliquippa, PA/Quigley) and Myranda Robson (Rocester, PA/Rochester) all had a hit in the game. Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) got her second loss of the week on the mound giving up 10 hits, 7 runs and only striking out two.
In the second game of the day the Lady Lions faced Emory and Henry. This game started much the same way with Borrell singling to get on base and making her way to second and then third on a Freyermuth single. But again Beaver left runners on base.
Beaver was able to keep Emory off the scoreboard until the third inning when they scored three runs on four hits. Emory then added two more runs in the fourth to make the lead 5-0. Beaver continued to struggle offensively only adding two hits in the last half of the game.
Beaver was lead offensively by Borrell, Palombo, Pier, Freyermuth and Rachel Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) who each had one hit in the contest. On the mound Freyermuth gave up seven hits and had three strikeouts.
The Lady Lions are back in action tomorrow morning at 9:30 when they face Rivier for the second time this week.
