BEAVER FALLS, Pa.—The Penn State Beaver men's soccer team took down Penn State Mont Alto 3-0 during Monday's PSUAC conference match.
In the first period, Beaver struck the first blow after freshman Mishael Garcia (Los Angeles/Alexander Hamilton) took the feed from sophomore Danylo Yakymov (Kiev/Grand Private Lyceum) for the first goal of the game at the eighth minute. The game went scoreless for the next 20 minutes until Yakymov made his way to the box to score a second goal the Lions (2-0). Less than a minute later, senior John Kazmierczyk (Conway/Quigley) connected on a pass by Yakymov to give Beaver a 3-0 edge before halftime. The defense played solid in the second period and kept the men of Mont Alto at bay by not allowing any goals by them to take a 3-0 conference victory for the day.
Yakymov had a dominant performance tonight with one goal on 15 shots with 10 on goal and two assists, followed by Garcia and Kazmierczyk, who both scored one goal on four shots with three on goal.
At the net, freshman Julian Hauff (Frederick/Governor Thomas Johnson) goaltended for 90 minutes and had four save against the four SOG he faced.
Beaver outshot Mont Alto 37-6 and 5-1 on corner kicks. After today's win, Beaver improves to 8-3 overall and is tied for first place in the PSUAC conference standings (5-0).
The Lions will travel to the University of Valley Forge in their next game on Friday, Oct. 11. The game starts at 3:30 p.m.
