New Brighton, PA -- Men's Soccer wins easily over WCCC.
After losing a close game at Washington Adventist and tying at Carlow, the Lions came into today's game looking for their first victory of the season. Just five minutes into the game Beaver got on the board off the toe of Zach Petey, assisted by Logan Ridgley. Beaver continued to apply pressure on the WCCC goalie and at the 10:35 mark John Kazmierczyk netted the second goal of the game, assisted by Shelton Hilliard. The offense of Beaver showed no sign of weakness, going on to score 6 more goals in the first half incuding goals by defenseman, Brandon Golonka and goalie, William Derry, who scored on a pentaly kick just before halftime.
In the second half, WCCC tallied their second goal of the game (51:28), but it wasn't enough to rally their side. Less than two minutes later, Kazmierczyk scored again to give Beaver a 9-2 lead. With multipe substitutions in the game, WCCC still was not able to slow down Beaver as goals came from four different players for Beaver including freshman, Francesco Ferrara.
Leading the team in goals was Hilliard with three, followed by Ferrara, Vicente Saldivar and Alex Rectenwald who each had two goals of their own as Beaver went on to win 15-2. In net for Beaver was William Derry who faced only 5 shots, but gave up two goals. He was relieved by Sarath Santhoshkumar late in the game.
Beaver now sits at 1-2-1 on the season and returns to action tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. as they host Point Park University.
