Rochester, PA -- Beaver falls in a heartbreaker to Penn State Brandywine in overtime, losing 3-2.
Coming off of a four game win streak and a 4-2 victory over Penn State Brandywine last season, the Lions looked to continue their winning ways. The game opened with twenty-five scoreless minutes before Brandywine would net two goals to open the scoring. Despite falling behind early, Beaver's defense remained diligent and kept Brandywine at bay for the remainder of the half.
After halftime, Beaver had a fire in their bellies as sophomore, Julius Illiano netted Beaver's first goal at the 51:17 mark, assisted by Darrion Gilmore. A short seven minutes later, Illiano found the back of the Brandywine goal again to tie the game at 2-2. The final thirty minutes of regulation remained scoreless as both defenses refused to fold.
As the game headed into overtime, both teams looked for the game winner and it was Brandywine that found it at 91:52 to narrowly steal the win from Beaver this afternoon.
Sam Sharpless who was in goal for Beaver, saw a total of 19 shots, 9 of them on goal as he gave up just three in more than ninety minutes of play.
The men will return to action on Monday, September 26th as they travel to Potomac State for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff in Keyser, West Virginia.
