Williamsport, PA- Penn State Beaver's men soccer team loses to Penn College in a stressful and eventful match up.
In the first half Beaver had a lot of problems only getting three shots on goal to rival Penn College's 29, three of which resulted in goals. The real problem came when Marcus Smith (Pittsburgh,PA/Perry) was given a yellow card and got upset with a referee, which resulted in a red card. Coach Jim Van Kirk stepped in to intervene and was ejected from the game at the 36:09 mark. This rounded out the first half with the score 3-0 and Beaver coach less.
Beaver called on the women's soccer coach, Shaun Schetka to step in for Van Kirk. The change in coach didn't help Beaver, who only scored once in this half. The goal came from Nidal Qaddumi (Boston, MA/International School of Choueifat Alain) and was assisted by Dominick Benson (West Mifflin, PA/West Mifflin). Even with a goal Beaver couldn't keep up the momentum, allowing one more goal to round out the match. Goalie Matt Fetch (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) was able to stop 17 shots, making him a key player of the match. The final score was 4-1.
Beaver's next match is against Penn State Worthington Scranton on Saturday, September 28th, hopefully Beaver can pull out a win.
