Bio

For over 42 years Alan Chartrand has coached basketball at every level from private training to high school and college ranks. At North Hollywood High School in California, Alan took two first place conference titles and one second place before moving to collegiate ranks; first atWest Los Angeles College, under Hall of Fame Coach Charles Sands where Alan was the head assistant. Several years later, when Coach Sands retired, Alan became the head assistant coach under Coach Howard Fisher at College of the Canyons, where he helped the team win back-to-back Westeren State Conference championships and have a close run for a three-peat.
When his wife assumed the head women's soccer coach position at Waldorf College, Alan volunteered his time to help Coach Brown with the men's basketball team. With the addition of some of the former College of the Canyon players whom Alan had coached and recruited, the team had the best record in school history during Alan's first year and finished 2nd in the conference end-of-season tournament. Alan went on to be the head men's coach at Unity College in Maine where he was able to improve the program to become competitive with other college teams.

At the community college of Rhode Island, Alan was a volunteer coach working with Coach Rick Harris for one year when his wife assumed a temporary position in Rhode Island. In that one year, Alan helped Coach Harris win a conference championship.
Moving back to Iowa, Alan was hired to work with Iowa Basketball Exosure League. This organization would recruit players from all Divison levels to be coached and played in videoed games seen by basketball franchises to get possible overseas placement. Alan was the tryout coordinator and head coach for the Hybrids team winning two championships in three years. He also worked very closely with the owner of the league and gave guidance to the other coaches on what was needed for players to succeed in the games for best recruitment possibilities.

After several years of retirement, Alan has returned to the court to mentor and help guide young men with their basketball development. Alan is married to his lovely wife Cindy, has two pure bred mutts, and live in the area.
