Beaver knocks down Scranton in second conference win, 101-66

Dunmore, Pa. – Penn State Beaver's red-hot 56-point first half lifted the team past conference rival Penn State Scranton for a 101-66 road victory on Friday night.

Junior guard John Foster (Austin/Del Valle) earned a double-double tonight, leading Beaver in both scoring and rebounds with 30 points and 10 rebounds followed by sophomore forward Andrew Brady (Alliance/Marlington), who chipped in 20 points.

Rounding out Beaver's double-digit score list, freshman forward/center Jeremy Redwine (Merced) earned 12 points in the 17 minutes he played tonight, and freshman guard Sonny Martinez (Austin) contributed 11 points.

1st half: The teams went back and forth on scoring, remaining a one-possession game until Foster sunk a 3-point shot on an assist by Martinez at the 18:28 to give Beaver an early two-score lead (8-4). The game remained close for the next three minutes with Beaver slightly ahead and continuing to build the tempo in the game until Foster scored back-to-back shots from behind the arch to build an 11-point deficit for Scranton at the 15-minute mark (19-8). Halfway through the first, Brady played a key role in the offense, scoring 8 points in the four minutes scoring the last 2 points off two free-throw attempts (43-17). With the clock running out, Redwine hit a clutch layup to give Beaver a 32-point lead before halftime, outscoring Scranton 56 to 24 in the first.

2nd half: The Lions remained dominant in the second half and built their largest lead of 44 points after Martinez hit a 3-point jump shot at the 15:58 mark. Scranton tried to come back, cutting 10 points off Beaver's lead at the 8:37 mark, but the early first-half deficit was too much for Scranton to overcome, and Beaver won by a final score of 101 to 66, tacking on back-to-back conference road wins. Beaver shot 62.1 percent from the field and shot 80 percent from behind the arches, hitting four out of five 3-point shots. 

Box Score Highlights: Beaver's defense held Scranton to scoring only 24 points in the first half and shot 61.8 percent to Scranton's 32.1 percent from the field in the first half. 15:58 in the second: The team's built its largest lead of 44 points. Beaver shot 29.2 percent higher than Scranton from the field, 3.2 percent higher from 3-point range, racked up 12 more rebounds, nine more assists and eight more points off turnovers. Beaver also outscored Scranton 7-4 on second-chance points.

After tonight's victory against Scranton, the Beaver lions extend their winning streak to four games and holds a 2-0 record in the PSUAC standing, with a 4-1 regular season record.

The Lions return tomorrow, Dec. 1 for the team's third-straight conference road bout against Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
