The men's basketball team fell at home Tuesday night 80-72 in a close match against Greater Allegheny. The game was Beaver's first conference match of the season.
The game started with Greater Allegheny gaining an early lead at the start of the half. Sophomore John Foster scored a 3-point shot, briefly giving Beaver a 3-2 lead. The two teams went back and forth in the lead, as senior DJ Austin also scored a 3-pointer. With five minutes left in the first half, Greater Allegheny was in the lead 27-20, but Beaver soon gave their opponents a run for their money as they began a comeback. Between two 3-pointers by Foster, Austin and senior Eric Gallupe, Beaver gained a one-point lead. The first half ended 35-34, with Beaver down by one point.
As the second half began, Greater Allegheny resumed their domination of the net, as they began to distance themselves from Beaver on the scoreboard. Foster and Austin continued to keep Beaver moving toward their opponent, but Greater Allegheny made a few more effective baskets. Beaver's offense was fast and aware, but a few missed jumpshots ultimately cost the team the game, as Beaver fell 80-72.
The team now sits at 1-5 for the season and 0-1 in the PSUAC conference. They will go on the road Friday when they face off against Penn State Hazelton in their next conference matchup.
