Beaver Opens Season with a Win

Monaca, PA -- Beaver wins season opener in convincing fashion.
To open the game Beaver went on a 5-0 run before Kent could answer with a three, but Beaver would never give up the lead. In the 12th minute, Beaver expanded their lead to 7 on a Dominque Fletcher layup. Kent would bring the game back to within five points with a little over nine minutes to play, but then Beaver's offense took over eventaully expanding their lead to 15 (36-21) on a pair of free throws from Fletcher. The Lions continued to push the pace and their lead, taking a 21 point lead with just over three minutes to play on a Domninque Stevenson layup (42-21). At the half, Beaver carried a ninteen point lead into the locker room, 51-32.
In the second half, Beaver maintained their 15-20 point lead throughout, and continued pushing the tempo while stopping the Golden Eagles offense. On a William Philpot layup, Beaver took a 33 point lead (93-60 with five minutes to play and the Lions never let up until the final buzzer, winning by a final score of 105-72.
Leading all scorers was junior, John Foster with 27 points and 3 rebounds. Coming off the bench with 23 points and 10 rebounds was Andrew Brady. Also putting up a double-double was senior, DJ Austin with 12 points and 10 assists. As a team the Lions shot 63% from the floor and almost 44% from behind the arc while making 84% of their free throws. They sit at 1-0 and prepare to face Grove City college on Wednesday, November 15th at home. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
