Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver men's basketball team took on the men of Apprentice, losing by a final score of 92-77.
The Penn State Beaver basketball team came into their game against Apprentice looking to extend on their current three game win streak. During their past three games the Beaver team has played tough, improving in nearly every aspect as the games went on. Beaver looks to carry their good play into this game, as they will be squaring off against one of the toughest opponents they will see all season.
The game started off very well for Beaver, as they came out with a lot of energy and took the lead early. For the first ten minutes of the game Beaver seemed to have control, as they were able to jump out to an 8 point lead by the halfway point of the first half. However, after the 10 minute mark Apprentice seemed to have a fire lit in them as they diminished Beaver's lead in just a few minutes. As the half went on, Apprentice continued to push to extend their lead as Beaver could not find a way to answer. In the final 10 minutes of the first half Beaver was outscored by Apprentice 29-13, as the score going into halftime was 52-33 Apprentice.
The second half of play was controlled entirely by Apprentice, as Beaver was just outmatched by a much more physical team. Even when Beaver was able to get hot, it never amounted to much as Apprentice seemed to be able to score at will against a much sloppier Beaver defense. The second half was just a shootout between the two teams, and although Beaver ended up out scoring Apprentice in the second half 44-40 the team still couldn't take the lead back. When it was all said and done in this one, Beaver ended up falling in this game by a final score of 92-77.
With Beaver's loss to Apprentice, they now sit with a 6-6 overall record on the season. The team was just outmatched in this game, as they physically couldn't handle Apprentice's team for much of the game. Beaver was led in this one by the efforts of Freshman Dimetres Moore (Mesa, Az / Skyline) who scored 26 points, got 6 rebounds, and tallied 5 steals, and Freshman Dominique Stevenson (Rochester, NY / Ithaca) who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 assists. The team will play next on Sunday, December 18, against SUNY Delhi. Game time is set for 3 pm.
