Final Day in Florida Leaves Beaver Behind
Vero Beach, FL - This year;s Spring Training competition proved to be tough for the Penn State Beaver Baseball team but neverless they put up a fight to the very last out. Finishing the tournament 0-6 against some tough teams is not the end to what the Baseball team has in store. After today's game against Hagerstown CC they proved they can fight and are hoping to show it when they return to play in the PSUAC. Today's game ended with a score of 15-3 leaving Hagerstown CC on top after 5 innings of play. Beaver scored in the 3rd and 5th innings but it was not enough to take home the victory. Beaver had only 5 hits this game and made 3 errors which helped Hagerstown CC secure the victory but gave Beaver an idea on where to improve for the remainder of the season.
Leading the team for Beaver today was Sophomore, Jericho Dela Cruz (Auburn, WA) who went 1 for 3, scored 2 out of their 3 runs, and had an impressive 3 stolen bases. Sophomor, Tylik Rouse (Macon, GA) went 2 for 3, and Junior, Matthew Cater (Monaca, PA) went 1 for 2 with a walk. Both Rouse and Cater managed to help the team with an RBI this game and tried to help even further by each stealing a base to get into scoring position. Beaver's other hit this game came from Sophomore, Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ) who went 1 for 3 this game. On the mound this game was Junior, Joseph Barile (N. Las Vegas, NV) and Sophomore, Aaron Stribling (Hainesport, NJ), both who tried to limit Hagerstown CC but was shown that it was a difficult team to bare. Beaver did manage to draw out 4 walks this game which lead deep counts and hard battles.
After 5 hard fought days and 6 tough games the Baseball team will return to Pennsylvania and begin their season Tuesday, March 14th. On Tuesday they will travel to Bethany College to play in a double header (two 7 inning games) at 2pm and 4pm.
