Monaca, PA -- Beaver Defeats Fayette in Double Header

Beaver returned home Wednesday afternoon for a conference double header against Penn State Fayette. Beaver was triumphant in both games, going 2-0 for the day.
Game 1 started with Fayette gaining an early 3 run lead at the top of the first. Beaver made a run at the bottom of the first, as Justyn Francona grounded out with a double, gaining an RBI as Shelton Hilliard ran home. Beaver made another run in the second, as Mitchell Lazaretti singled out to center field with an RBI. Beaver was down by 1 going into the third, but they soon gained the lead, earning 2 runs in the third. Francona hit out to left field, with a SAC fly and an RBI. Stefan Romaniuk also singled with an RBI, pushing the team ahead by 1. There was a lull in the action until the seventh, as Fayette and Beaver each gained a run. Matt Capo made the run in the seventh as Logan Gibbons reached first on a fielder's choice. This gave Beaver a 4-3 win in game 1.
Game 2 started with Beaver gaining 2 runs out of the gate, with Francona doubling with an RBI. Zach Cossette also singled out to left field with an RBI. The second went scoreless, but at the bottom of the third, Scott Hughes homered with an RBI. After going scoreless, Fayette tied the game at the top of the fourth with 3 runs. Beaver soon broke that tie at the bottom of the fourth, as Hilliard hit out to center field, earning a SAC fly and an RBI as Gibbons ran home.
Beaver made an additional 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Gibbons singled out to left field with an RBI. Soon, Stefan Romaniuk ran home as Dan Vanderslice reached first on a fielder's choice, gaining an RBI. This ultimately was the last run of the game, giving Beaver a 6-3 win.
The team is now 7-12 overall and 6-5 in their conference games. They will travel to Penn State Du Bois Saturday afternoon for the first of 3 weekend games between the teams.
