Beaver traveled to Penn State Mont Alto Tuesday afternoon for a conference double-header. Beaver struggled in both games, going 0-2 for the day.
Beaver started the first game gaining an early lead after scoring 3 runs in the top of the first. This started when Justyn Francona singled for an RBI, with Stefan Romaniuk scoring the first run of the game. Then, Scott Hughes grounded out to third base, as Matt Capo scored a run. Francona then scored a run after Zack Cossette singled for an RBI, giving Beaver an early 3-0 lead.
The second and third innings went scoreless, but Mont Alto began to catch steam in the bottom of the fourth, scoring 2 runs. The top of the fifth showed Francona singling for an RBI, as Romaniuk ran to home. In the bottom of the fifth, Mont Alto tied the game at 4 after scoring 2 runs. The following 2 innings were scoreless but intense. In the bottom of the eighth, Mont Alto hit a walk-off homerun, defeating Beaver 5-4.
Game 2 proved to also be difficult for Beaver. They made it onto the board in the top of the first, following an RBI single from Cossette and a run from Capo. Mont Alto gained the lead in the bottom of the first, scoring 3 runs. After a scoreless second, the top of the third showed Beaver scoring another run, as Francona singled out to center field and Capo scored on the sacrifice. This put Beaver 1 run away from a tie, making for another intense game.
The bottom of the fifth showed Mont Alto gaining a significant lead, scoring 3 additional runs. Beaver managed another run at the top of the sixth, following an RBI single from Mitchell Lazzaretti and another run from Cossette. However, the bottom of the sixth cemented Beaver's fate, as Mont Alto scored 6 runs in the inning. After a 7 inning game, Beaver fell 12-3.
The team is now 4-9 in their overall season and 3-2 in their conference matchups. They will face off against Mont Alto once again at home Wednesday afternoon.
