Monaca, PA -- Beaver Goes 0-2 Against Geneva

Following their weeklong Spring Training in Myrtle Beach, Beaver traveled to Geneva Saturday afternoon for a double header. The team would go 0-2 in what became a pair of close games.
Geneva opened the game in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The next three innings proved to be a defensive battle for both teams, as the scored held with Geneva at 1-0. Beaver got on the board in the top of the fifth after a lead off single by Zack Cossett, followed by Logan Gibbons reaching on an error to put runners at first and second. In Shelton Hilliard's at bat, he put down a sacrifice to advance Cossett to third and Gibbons to second to set the stage for Eric Halicek, who hit a 2 RBI single to left to give Beaver a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, Geneva answered with two runs of their own, to take a 3-2 lead, which would go on to be the final score.
Making his first appearence on the mound this season, Dan Vanderslice threw 6 complete innings, giving up 4 hits and striking out 4 to keep Beaver in the game. Offensively, he was supported by Ty Cole, who went 2 for 3 to lead the team, as well as by Halicek, who went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.
In the second game of the double header, Geneva got off to an identical start, scoring one run in the bottom of the first. But this time, Beaver answered quickly, putting up 3 runs in the third, 2 of them coming off the bat of Cole, who singled to score Matt Capo and Stefan Romaniuk, giving Beaver a 3-1 lead.
Geneva answered in the bottom of the fourth with three runs of their own, to take the lead for 1.
In the top of the sixth, on a 2 out ralley, Cossett was walked, followed by a Mitchell Lazzaretti home run, his first of the season, to give Beaver a 1 run lead. After holding Geneva scoreless in the bottom of the inning, Beaver hoped to finish the seventh inning strong, but gave up a 2 RBI walk-off single, to end the game by a final score of 6-5.
Beaver is now 1-7 overall and will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday afternoon, taking on Westminster in a double header.
