Baseball falls to St Joe's Brooklyn in First Round of USCAA Small College Baseball World Series
Beaver Baseball falls 3-0 in first round of USCAA National Tournament.
Hampton, VA- The Penn State Beaver Baseball team (8th seeded) kicked off the USCAA Small College World Seiries, playing in the first game of the tournament versus #9 seeded St Joseph Brooklyn.
The game started off as a pitchers duel. In the bottom of the second, Beaver set up shop after one out. Sophomore Derek Bozic (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) singled and Junior Tyler Thellman (Blackhawk/Beaver Falls, PA) followed with a double. Freshman Duncan Miklos (Beaver Falls, PA / Blackhawk) followed by reaching base on an error to load the bases with one out, but Beaver could not cash in and the score remained 0-0 after two. Freshman Jake Debo (New Brighton/New Brighton, PA) pitched 5 scoreless innings before the Bears struck twice in the sixth and got him for one in the seventh. Beaver had runners on base every inning, but couldn't get one across the plate, falling in game 1 3-0.
In the loss, Debo threw 7 innings, giving up 9 hits, walking two and striking out three. Offensively, Thellman and Bozic had four of Beaver's five hits, both going 2-2 with a couple of walks.
Beaver will now have to fight their way out of the loser's bracket, playing their next game on Thursday, at 8:30 a.m. The Lions will take on the loser of the Rochester College and Appretice game. The game will be brodcasted live at http://baseball.theuscaa.com/live.
