Monaca, PA – Beaver continues to struggle with teams from the east.
Sunday afternoon Beaver hosted Penn State Brandywine for a conference double header. In game one, in the bottom of the second inning, Beaver opened up the scoring on a double from Matt Rose (Beaver, PA/Beaver) scoring Nick Casasanta (Moon Twp, PA/Moon) who had singled earlier in the inning. Beaver's one run lead (1-0) would not last long as Brandywine would answer with a run of their own in the top of the third to tie the game (1-1). Brandywine then found their rhythm and scored three more in the fourth and had a big fifth inning scoring nine more runs to take a 13-1 lead. This proved to be too much for Beaver to overcome despite a late double from sophomore Rob Trhlin (Chesterland, OH/West Geauga).
On the mound was Blaise McCarty (Beaver Falls, PA/Riverside) who gave up 11 runs on 10 hits. Offensively Beaver produced 6 hits, but could not string them together to produce scoring.
Game two played out similarly to the first as Beaver gave up one run in both the first and second innings and three more in the third. In the fourth inning, it looked like Beaver may break open a scoring effort as they got runners into scoring position, but they were not able to capitalize on the opportunity. Brandywine continued to score at ease putting up three more runs in the fifth, but this time Beaver answered on a RBI single from McCarty scoring Araiza but it was not enough as Beaver found themselves down by a score of 8-1 at the end of the inning. Brandywine closed out the scoring in the sixth with two additional runs and went on to win the game by a score of 10-1.
This loss drops Beaver to 8-4 in the PSUAC. They are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 17th against Penn College at 3:00PM. This game will also feature a game day giveaway!
