Beaver Splits Doubleheader with Greater Allegheny

On Saturday, Sept. 27 the Nittany Lions baseball team lost one and won one, 5-0 and 7-4, in a conference doubleheader with Penn State Greater Allegheny in West Mifflin.
In game one, Beaver and Greater Allegheny battled in the first three innings until Greater Allegheny took the win with three runs in the bottom of the third and two in the sixth. Defensively, Beaver sophomore Jake Wojcik (Burgettestown, PA) pitched six solid innings for Beaver.
In game two, Beaver got a run in the top of the second, but Greater Allegheny came back with a run in the bottom of the third. Beaver rallied for two runs in the top of the fourth, bringing the score to 3-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Greater Allegheny had three runs and turned the score to their favor, 4-3. Neither team scored in the sixth inning, bringing the game to the seventh inning with Beaver trailing by one. Beaver was down 4-3 in the seventh with two outs but rallied for four runs to take the win.
In the second game, Beaver sophomore Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) left the game with a single and a double and freshman Joe Placidi (Aliquippa, PA) ended the game with three hits. Junior Cody Moldovan (Ellwood City, PA) added a triple, and Beaver totaled ten hits.
Beaver is 7-3 in the conference and 7-3 overall. Conference play continues at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sep. 28 when Beaver hosts a doubleheader against Penn College.
